OVW TV #868: "Championships & Festivals"

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, April 6, 2016. This episode can be seen on WBNA-21 in the Louisville area on Saturday at 11AM and 10PM, and online on Monday at www.ovwrestling.com/tv. In this episode, Big Jon faces Rocco Bellagio in a rematch from SNS, Devin Driscoll & Daniel Eads face the Tag Buddies in tag action, Leon Shelly serves divorce papers to Scarlet, plus much more!

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

"Bad Boy" Shane Andrews (w/Jessie Belle & "Double R Superstar" Randy Royal) defeats Rump Thump. Rump thumps Shane in the corner and then sets him up for a possible superplex, but Jessie distracts referee Joe Wheeler, and Randy grabs Rump's leg and makes him crash to the mat. Shane composes himself and hits the Frog Splash for the 3.

Tony Gunn defeats Nate Stone. Stone controls early with his power, but Gunn fights back and gets a tapout to the Sharpshooter for the victory.

That concludes tonight's pre-show dark matches. I always recommend watching the episode first on TV or online before reading the rest of the report. Again, you can check it out on WBNA ion-21 in the Louisville area Saturdays at 11AM and 10PM (check local listings) and on OVW's official website Mondays at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

Gilbert Corsey, Shannon the Dude, & Ron Hed are on commentary, and Ron is also the ring announcer.

Big Jon vs. "The Show Stealer" Rocco Bellagio ends in a no-contest. Once again, the two big men match each other move for move and cannot connect with their finishers. Casey Reeves & Josh Ashcraft come out and get the attention of Rocco. Devin Driscoll runs in and hits both Jon & Rocco from behind. However, Jon & Rocco fight back and end up working together to knock Driscoll out of the ring.
Dean Hill comes out and says Driscoll must think if he interferes, he will not have to defend the OVW Heavyweight Title. He says Driscoll will be defending the title in E-Town on April 16 and it will be a triple threat against both Jon & Rocco! He says he also has another big announcement, and on April 29, the Kentucky Derby Festival has asked them to return and they will! On the Great Lawn, there will be an OVW event called "Run for the Ropes". The main event will be a 10 man elimination match. Devin Driscoll will captain one team, and the other will be captained by Big Jon!

"The Ladies' Man" Leon Shelly is brought out by Gilbert Corsey and it's time to sign the divorce papers.
The Van Zandt Family Circus is called to the ring, but Scarlet comes out with just Little Damion. Gilbert says Scarlet is really all that's needed anyway. Leon signs, but then Dapper Dan & Ringmaster pop up from under the ring and attack Leon from behind.
After they lay Leon out, they bring out some hair clippers and shave off part of Leon's afro.

"Primetime" Robbie Walker defeats Tyler Matrix. Walker actually controls most of this match, but Matrix starts making a comeback, hitting a kick to the head and the Drive-By around the ring post. Walker comes back and clocks Matrix on the floor and rolls him in. He grabs a chair from ringside girl Tori Payne, but Tori follows Walker up the steps and gets the chair back. As referee Joe Wheeler is watching Walker give the chair back to Tori, Walker notices Matrix coming up behind him and kicks him below the belt and covers him for the 3.

OVW WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP: Jessie Belle (w/"The Bad Boys Club") (c) defeats Maria James. Maria is going for a submission, but Randy Royal jumps on the apron distracting her and the referee. Jessie attacks Maria from behind and locks her in a submission for the tapout.

"The Tag Buddies": Adam Revolver & Rev. Stuart Miles defeat Daniel Eads & Devin Driscoll (w/Casey Reeves & Josh Ashcraft) by DQ. A good back and forth match early. The Tag Buddies start rolling and hit the double flapjack on Eads, but The Bad Boys Club runs out and attacks them.
They hit the 3D on both Tag Buddies, and Josh grabs a mic and says that he has 4 of the 5 guys for his team at the Derby Festival: The Bad Boys Club, Daniel Eads, & Devin Driscoll. He tells Big Jon that it's his move.

This ended the TV taping.

Post-Show Dark Matches:

LOSER LEAVES OVW "I QUIT" MATCH: Trevor Steele defeats "The Technical Titan" Eric Locker. A very good hard fought match that goes back and forth between these two big men. Neither man wants to give in or tap, but finally Locker is forced to after getting locked in the crossface chicken wing.
Locker & Steele shake hands following Locker's final match.

As always, thanks for reading!

  1. Why the hell is such an important match like a loser leaves town match a dark match and not on TV?!?!

  2. OVWmania doesn't book the matches. He only reports on what happens.
